I love the shapes and colours of the nets and floats, hanging from the bamboo and magic of the patterns created by sunlight in the foliage.
The Beach Bar at Soufriere had all the ingredients that I always seem to intuitively chose in a subject - light and shade contrast with balancing vertical and horizontal elements...something I feel in my bones! The boats are stories in themselves, with layers of flaking paint, weathered wood and fraying rope. I tend to prefer to paint beaches that are an extension of the local communities, rather than the hotel fringed ones. The Palm tree trunk in "Duquesne - boat painting area" is daubed with paint where the brushes have been cleaned!
